Summary

The act was introduced by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), alongside co-sponsors Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), and Sen. Susan Collins (D-ME), on Sept. 12, 2023. It bans the distribution of materially deceptive AI-generated audio or visual media relating to candidates running for federal office with the intent of influencing an election or soliciting funds. The act was endorsed by Microsoft shortly after it was introduced.
