People of the State of California v. Sol Ecom, Et Al. | Litigation | United States | Aug 15, 2024 | Complaint Filed | Oct 19, 2024 |
Summary
San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu filed a first-of-its-kind lawsuit against "some of the world’s largest websites that create and distribute nonconsensual AI-generated pornography." These companies are the owners of the sixteen "most-visited websites that invite users to create nonconsensual nude images of women and girls," including Sol Ecom, Inc., Briver LLC, Itai Tech Ltd., DeFireX OÜ, Itai OÜ, Augustin Gribinets, and DOEs #1 through #50. The suit alleges that the website owners and operators violate "state and federal laws prohibiting deepfake pornography, revenge pornography, and child pornography" as well as California's Unfair Competition Law. It is seeking "the removal of Defendants’ websites as well as injunctive relief to permanently restrain Defendants from engaging in this unlawful conduct. The lawsuit also seeks civil penalties and costs for bringing the lawsuit."
