Summary
The LIFT AI (Literacy in Future Technologies Artificial Intelligence) Act proposes measures to improve educational efforts related to AI literacy at the K-12 level. The term “AI literacy” refers to “having the age-appropriate knowledge and ability to use artificial intelligence effectively, to critically interpret outputs, to solve problems in an AI-enabled world, and to safely and ethically use AI.” The bill would allow the Director of the National Science Foundation to allocate awards to higher education institutions and nonprofits to develop this K-12 curriculum and AI literacy evaluation tools. Additionally, it would establish award funds to be used for the creation and execution of AI literacy professional development, learning, and mentoring activities for educators and relevant local and State agencies.
