Summary

The bill would require social media platforms to terminate the accounts of minor users under 14 and prohibit them from creating new accounts or entering into account holder contracts, permanently delete all personal information held by the minor’s terminated account, and more. It also authorizes Florida's Department of Legal Affairs to bring actions against social media platforms for "knowing or reckless violations" of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act as well as issue and enforce civil investigative demands. The law is set to go into effect on January 1, 2025, although two tech trade groups, the Computer and Communications Industry Association and NetChoice, filed suit against Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, asking for injunctive relief.
