Marché Arends is South African independent investigative journalist focusing on systemic inequality within communities of the Global Majority. Her work lies at the intersection of Big Tech accountability and labor, with current themes including how AI hype is used as a mechanism of ideological control. Arends was part of the 2025 cohort of Pulitzer Center AI Accountability Fellows and was recently selected to serve a two-year term as a Pulitzer Center AI Spotlight Series Coach. Her work has appeared in Africa Uncensored, The Continent, The Africa Report, Semafor Africa, The Daily Maverick, and elsewhere.
