Laurie Johnson

Laurie Johnson is Director of the Campus Honors Program and Professor of German at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a Public Voices Fellow through the OpEd Project. She holds affiliate appointments in Comparative and World Literature, Criticism and
Interpretive Theory, Global Studies, and the European Union Center. She most recently edited Germany from the Outside: Rethinking German Cultural History in an Age of Displacement (2022) and is the author of Forgotten Dreams: Revisiting Romanticism in the Cinema of Werner Herzog (2016), Aesthetic Anxiety (2010), and The Art of Recollection in Jena Romanticism (2002).
