João C. Magalhães

João C. Magalhães is an Assistant Professor in Media, Politics, and Democracy at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, and an Associated Researcher at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society in Berlin. His research investigates the politics and ethics of platform power, focussing on Big Tech companies. This essay was written with the support of a Veni grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and inspired by conversations with Clara Iglesias Keller (Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society) and Robert Gorwa (WZB Berlin Social Science Center).
