Avani Airan

Avani is a Research Associate at Aapti Institute, where her current work centres around questions of governance and community rights in the context of digital infrastructures and AI systems. Building on her background in law, she also researches questions of labour and intellectual property rights in the context of generative AI, and advocates for people-centric data governance frameworks in India. Previously, she has contributed to literature on operationalising data stewardship in the health sector and conducted field work for exploring social security provisioning for gig-workers. Prior to joining Aapti, she co-founded DigiHealthConnect, which is an NGO committed to building ground-level access around health and digital wellbeing, and bringing learnings from the local healthcare ecosystem to global forums.
