Atef Said

Atef Said is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he teaches sociological theory, political sociology, social movements, and digital politics. He is the author of Revolution Squared: Tahrir, Political Possibilities, and Counterrevolution in Egypt (Duke University Press 2024). He practiced human rights law in Egypt from 1995-2004, where he directed many research units and initiatives. He wrote two books about torture in Egypt (published in Arabic in 2000 and 2008).
